Do I need a technical assessment for a heat pump?
If your home was built before 2007, yes, unless a valid BER shows a heat loss indicator of 2.3 or less. It must be done before you apply, and SEAI pays a €200 grant towards it.

Homes built before 2007 need a technical assessment unless a valid BER shows low heat loss.

A valid BER showing a heat loss indicator of 2.3 or less means you do not need one.

It has to be done before you apply for the heat pump grant.

The grant towards it is €200.

If you insulate first, the BER you need after that work can be the one that shows the lower heat loss, and the assessment is not needed.
