The short version
FixMyBER is run by UseCara. We only hold your name, email or phone number if you type them into a form and send it. Your plan is worked out in your own browser. We count visits with Google Analytics, and it sets a cookie only if you say yes. Anything you send us is deleted twelve months after it arrives, or sooner if you ask.
Your plan
The plan is worked out in your browser. Your answers about the house go into the page's web address, so you can bookmark it or send it on. That address holds the house answers and the county, and nothing else. It never holds your street, Eircode, name or email.
Nothing about your plan reaches us unless you send it. "Copy the link" and "Email it to yourself" send us nothing: the email opens in your own mail app.
If you ask for quotes
The quote form asks which jobs, where the home is (an address, an Eircode or a county), a little about the house, your name and a phone number. It does not ask for your email. When you send it, those details go to a private form in our Google Workspace account, which tells us a request has come in. It goes to UseCara, who run FixMyBER, and nobody else.
To get you quotes, we send SEAI-registered contractors the job: the kind of house, its county and the work. We do not give them your name, phone number or address. You get their quotes from us, and a contractor only hears from you if you choose them.
If you ask for quotes from Check my home
"Check my home" works out your numbers in your browser and sends us nothing. If you then ask for quotes, we get your email address, a phone number if you give one, the answers you gave the check (county, type of home, when it was built, its rating, its heating and the jobs it suggested) and a line of the result. It goes to the same private form in our Google Workspace account as a quote request. We use them only to arrange quotes for that home from SEAI-registered contractors, and we don't give contractors your email or phone number without asking you. The Eircode you type into the check is never sent: we read its first three characters, in your browser, to find the county.
If you sign up for grant changes
If you ask us to tell you when grants change, we get your email address and use it only for that. Every email has a way to unsubscribe.
If you ask for quotes
When that form is switched on, it asks for your name, email, an optional phone number and your county, with your home's type, age, rating and heating and the work you want done. We pass it to the installers you tick, up to five. If you tick none, we pick up to three registered with SEAI in your county. Once an installer has your details they are responsible for them, and their own privacy policy applies. We never sell your details, to installers or to anyone else.
When the form is switched off, the page shows who is on SEAI's register in your county instead, and asks for nothing.
The names, counties and websites we show come from SEAI's own public registers of contractors, One Stop Shops and solar companies, copied on the date printed at the foot of each list.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Because you asked us to. Each form does nothing until you send it, and says what happens to your details. That consent is our only legal basis, and you can withdraw it at any time by emailing us.
Lawful basis for form details: consent, Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Withdrawal has no effect on anything already sent before you withdrew. Analytics cookies: consent, under the ePrivacy Regulations 2011 (S.I. 336/2011).
Who handles it for us
These services handle your details on our behalf and nothing more: our web host (Vercel), our Google Workspace account (the quote form, and our email), and, if we switch it on, the service that delivers form emails (Resend). None of them use your details for their own purposes.
How long we keep it
A request arrives as a response in our private Google form, or as an email. There is no other database. We delete it twelve months after it arrives, or sooner if you ask.
Analytics and cookies
We count visits with Google Analytics 4. It starts with cookies turned off: until you choose, it sends only a count of the page you are on, without a cookie and without anything that tells one visit from another. A bar at the foot of the page asks. Say yes and it sets Google's analytics cookies, so we can see how many people come back. Say no and it keeps counting without them. Your answer is kept in your browser's own storage, so the bar does not ask again.
We also count a few steps in the plan and the forms: that a plan was started, which question was answered and with which answer (house type, age, heating, walls, windows, attic), that a plan was shown or saved, and that a form was sent. For the county we only record whether one was given. We never send a name, email, phone number, street or Eircode to analytics.
If we switch Plausible on as well, it sets no cookies and stores no personal data. If an analytics tool is not set up on this build, its tag is not on the page at all.
Stored in your browser
A few things, all only on your device, and we never read them: your cookie choice; the answers to your last plan (the house, not you), so the home page can offer "Continue your plan"; the four answers to the quick estimate on the grant pages; and, if you type your address on the home page, that address, kept only until you close the tab. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them all.
Getting it deleted
Email us at info@usecara.ie and say which request was yours. We will delete what we hold and tell you we have done it. If it was a quote request, we will ask the installers we passed it to to do the same. You can also ask for a copy of what we hold, or ask us to correct it.
If you are not happy with how we handle this, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission. The link is at the foot of this page.
The detail, if you want it
What is stored where. The pages are static files. The forms post once to a small function that checks the fields and sends an email. Nothing is written to disk. A form is switched on only when that email can actually be delivered; when it cannot, the form is not shown, and the function refuses rather than keeping anything.
Anti-abuse. The function counts how many submissions arrive from one internet address in a minute and rejects the sixth. That count lives in memory for a minute and is not kept.
Your rights under GDPR: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and the right to withdraw consent. Email us for any of them; we answer within a month and usually within two working days.
Children. This site is for homeowners. We do not knowingly collect details from anyone under 18.
Changes. If we change any of this, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
