What this site is

An independent guide to what a home energy upgrade costs in Ireland and what the grants pay. It is free, it carries no advertising, and it is run by us, not by anyone in the industry.

What it is not

Not SEAI. We are not the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, we are not part of any government scheme, and nobody has approved or endorsed what is here. Grant rules come from SEAI, and SEAI's own pages are the authority — if we differ from them, they are right and we are wrong. Tell us and we will fix it.

Not a quote. Every figure here is a typical figure for homes that look like yours on paper. It is not an offer, not a price, and not a promise that any installer will do the work for that money. Only a written quote from an installer who has seen your house is a price.

Not a promise of a grant. Whether you get a grant, and how much, is SEAI's decision, made against their rules on the day you apply. Rules and amounts change. Always check SEAI's own pages before you spend money.

Not financial advice. Nothing here is advice about borrowing, mortgages, investments or tax. Where we mention loans or interest rates it is to describe what lenders publish, dated, so you can go and check. Talk to a regulated adviser before you borrow.

Installers

If you ask us to, we pass your details to up to three installers registered with SEAI in your county. That is the whole of our involvement.

We do not employ them, supervise them, inspect their work, set their prices or guarantee anything they say or do. Any contract is between you and the installer. Get more than one quote, get it in writing, and check the firm is on SEAI's registered list before you sign.

Getting it wrong

We work hard to keep this accurate and we publish exactly where every number comes from. We cannot promise it is complete, current or free of mistakes, and we are not liable for money spent or decisions made on the strength of it. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death, personal injury or fraud.

The small print

You may quote or link to this site freely. Please link to the page you are quoting so readers can see the date and the sources.

Figures derived from SEAI's public rating file are published under the licence named at the foot of every page.

These terms are governed by the law of Ireland.

If something goes wrong with a job

We cannot help with a dispute between you and an installer — we are not a party to it. Your first step is the installer's own complaints process, in writing.

For work grant-aided by SEAI, SEAI operates its own inspection and complaints process for registered contractors; start with the SEAI grants pages listed at the foot of this page. For consumer rights generally, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission publishes guidance on contracts, deposits and work not done to standard.

Please also tell us. If an installer we passed you to behaves badly, we stop sending them requests.
