Heat pump readiness check
The heat pump grant has one test that catches older homes: how fast the house loses heat. This check applies SEAI’s rule to your answers, and shows how many homes like yours already pass it.
Technical assessment: needed first
Built before 2007 without a BER showing 2.3 or less, SEAI asks for a technical assessment before you apply.

Of 10,177 published BERs for semi-detached houses built 1970–1989, 15% already show a heat loss indicator of 2.3 or lower.
The rule, in SEAI’s words
Homes built before 2007 need a technical assessment unless a BER shows low heat loss.

A valid BER with a heat loss indicator of 2.3 or less means no assessment.

It must be done before you apply.

A heat pump needs a well-insulated home.
