We have no access to SEAI's systems. Nobody outside SEAI has. This page tells you where to look and what you should expect to see.
Where to check
Individual grants — log into the same online portal you applied on. Your bank details and the state of your application are both there.
Free upgrades (Warmer Homes) — the Warmer Homes portal you applied on, or email SEAI's Warmer Homes team.
Through a One Stop Shop — ask the One Stop Shop. The application is in their name, not yours, so SEAI will not discuss it with you.
Every route has the same phone line and the scheme teams have their own email addresses; SEAI's contact page has the current ones, and we link it below rather than printing numbers that go out of date.

What "pending" means, stage by stage
Pending approval. If it has been more than a working day on an online application, something on the form needs a human — usually the meter number, the year built, or the contractor's registration. Ring, do not wait.
Approved, works not started. The clock is running: 8 months on the individual route, 12 through a One Stop Shop. There is no penalty for not starting. If the contractor cannot commit, cancel and apply again — but check the grant amount first, because you get whatever is on offer on the day you reapply.
Works done, payment pending. The commonest cause is an incomplete claim: the declaration of works needs three signatures — yours, the contractor's and the assessor's — and the new rating must be published before the claim is looked at. Assessors are busy, and a published rating can lag the visit.
Selected for inspection. Some jobs are inspected before payment. Payment stays on hold until the inspection, and any rework it calls for, is finished. There is no published timeline for this.
Free upgrades, no contact for months. That is normal, and it is the part we most dislike telling people. Applications are handled strictly in order and nobody can be moved up. The first sign of movement is usually a call to book the survey visit.
Things that quietly stall a claim
- Bank details. A wrong account number is the single most common delay, and it is silent. Check them in the portal now, not when the money is late.
- Tax clearance. Grants over €10,000 in one calendar year need a tax clearance certificate. It is free from Revenue online, and people are regularly caught out by it.
- The rating is published, not just done. Payment waits on the certificate appearing on the national register, not on the assessor's visit.
- A changed contractor or a changed spec without telling SEAI first. That is not a delay; it is a refusal.
- The eight-month deadline passing. On most grants this is survivable — send the paperwork in with a covering letter explaining the delay and SEAI will still consider it. On the solar panel grant it is not: after eight months it is gone.
